True Story of H&G Week 3 - Ending

The end of the novel brings satisfaction for some, but doesn't avoid the real consequences of the war on the lives of these characters; all of them face futures that are radically altered from anything they have known before. Which characters do you think achieved redemption? Who got what they deserved? What do you think the future will be like for Hansel and Gretel? For the people of Piaski?

I am glad Gretel got her memory back and they were reunited with their father who lived after being shot. I don't think Magda got what she deserved, but it needed to happen to show the time period and what happened. I think the Oberfurer got what he deserved by being captured and taken to Stalin. I think the future looks good for Hansel and Gretel if they made it this far. The people of Paiaski will stuggle because there are still many hearts broken, torn families, and wrongful blame that could occur for thier sufferings.

I think that the priest achieveed redemtion b/c he did what Telek was going to do so Telek could run off and keep Nelka happy. He righted his wrong, in a sick, twisted, way. I think at the end the Oberfuher got who he deserved b/c he got arrested and German Nazi's in Polish jails weren't treated very well. Hansel and Gretel will probably live happily ever after but not with out the nightmares and a few other problems. The people of Piaski will proably end up moving b/c of the gore and violence they witnessed there. They probably will not want to be cloistered anymore and will want human contact with other Poles.

... and then after the prision he will be send to sibera and no one comes back. being worked to death is much more tourterous than just killing him with a gun.

I think that the ending was semi satisfactory. I like that Gretel got her memory back and that the children were reunited with their children. I thought it was an interesting plot choice to have the Obefurer run into the children in the city. I didn't like that Magda was killed but I think it has to do with (as Paige said) the time period and the events happening, if it wasn't in the story it wouldn't have effected the story so much, although, next time not so much detail. I also didn't like how you never hear anything of Nelka and Telek but I guess that is kind of how the times were you never heard from people again. I'm not sure what will happen to everyone, times were unpredictable back then.

Its good that Hansel and Gretel survived but it was sad that all those people died in the chamber. I think that when Oberfurer got captured it was good because he is crazy.

I think the big O got what he deserved and so did the priest. The priest got what he deserved by killing the woman and the guard he was treatd like shit by those people then he came back with the quickness and did what he had to do to make him self feel better about himself.

I agree with Katie that the priest succeeded in achieving redemption. He did a good act by sacrificing himself for his grandson. I am very glad that the mechanik is reunited with his kid after all the hard work that he has endured to stay alive in hopes of finding them. I think that the future will be good for Hansel and Gretel. I think they will be sad because of losing their new "family" but will live peacefully not with their father.

I thought that the ending was good but I did feel that Magda should of servived becuase she was the one that helped Hansel and Gretel out to keep them alive. I am glad that Gretel got her memeory back becuase she was out of it for so long and then finally got her life back. I do think that the people in Paiaski will have a hard time but i think that it will get better over time. I do think that Hansel and Gretel will have a good life from now on because they are with there father and can start and new life.

In the end the priest got redemtion because he was able to save his daughter. He never claimed her before or loved her so this was his way of showing her that he loved her. I think that Oberfurer got what he deserved because he was a really bad man. I wish Magda didn't die in the camps. I knew that she was going to die from the showers because I know that this is what they did to the Jewish people from History class.

I liked how the children and their father found each other in the end, but that doesn't mean that their life was great after that, a lot of people had trouble after the war and they probably do. I think that the priest went to a better place because he actually killed to save someone else, and I really hope that Nelka and Telek are ok but in the long run....they probably aren't.

I dont think Magda got what she deserved, she had a big part in saving people so i believe she should have been saved. I think the Oberfurer definatley got what he deserved, he was crule and rude to people and what happened should have happened. I think that in time Hansel and Gretel will heal mentially but it will not be forgotten what happened.

Obviously the Oberfuhrer got what he deserved, Magda didn't. As for the people of Poland, the Soviets gave them more grief.

I agree with how the Oberfurer got what he deserved. Magda did not deserve to die, but with the events happening, it was not shocking that she was. It was good that Gretel had gotten her memory back, and that the children had found their father. The future for them will be difficult after having gone through this, but it will also be easier since their family is back together. That will not however be the same case for the people of Piaski who have all been through so much.
