Many of you mentioned that you "hate" Amir. Do you think hating the main character makes you "hate" the book? Which characters do you like?

I actually hate Hassan beauce he doesn't let Amir stand up for himself. It seems as though Hassan is always trying to prove that he is worthy of being Amir's servant when really Amir has no say in the matter in the first place. I belive if Hassan would just let Amir get the crap beaten out of him, Amir probably wouldn't feel like such a failure to his father beacuse Baba would be proud that he at least took them on by himslef.
I think that hating the main charactar in a way does make you hate the book because you hear about the main person the most so all you think about is the hate you have for him. I don't hate Amir because he worried about him self and not others even though he was a coward for running away when Hassan was being raped. He just didn't want to be raped also and now he has made somthing out of himself in America
Hating the main character doesn't mean you have to hate the book. Some people actually like anti hero's and believe that they make the story more appealing. It just depends what kind of books you like..
Just because you hate a character doesn't have to mean you hate the book. I've read a few books where I seriously hate the main character but I love how the story is laid out, so I keep reading. Just like this book. I don't like Amir, and other than the fact that I have to read this for class, I keep reading.
Hating the main character does not make you hate the book. This main character makes the book what it is, without these frustrations and turmoil the book wouldn't be interesting would it?
I don't hate Amir, the whole point of the book was to be in his head and understand why he is the way he is. Despite the fact that he may be cowardly at times, he still knows what's right and is shameful of himself for who he is. Internal conflict does nothing but make this book better.
I don't know what this question is about but I'll tell you my favorite scene in the book...Which would be when Amir and Assef duke it out and Amir gets whooped and then Sohrab slingshots Assef in his one good eye and Amir dectibes it. I thought that was the funniest thing in the world. I laughed for a good five minutes. And I don't really hate Amir, I just thinks he needed encouragemant and to be left to finally do things on his own to rid himself of his cowardice and his sheltered/ guided life. I don't like any of the characters..don't know why, I just don't.
I don't hate the character Amir, I just don't like the way he carries out his decisions. He does not think all of his situations all the way through. Hassan is the character that I have come to like. He has found a way to make his life better and has married and had a kid. Despite all the hate and punishment he went through when he was younger, he has learned to go on with his life and make something of it.
Well i dont think that it makes a person hate the book. I think that it makes people think alittle bit more on it. Or maybe somepeople try to find another character to like.
I do not think hating the main character makes you hate the book. If I did hate Amir, I still would want to find out what happened to him. I like Amir even though he did some wrong doings.
Hating the main character i think doesnt make you hate the book. It makes it more interesting in a way. You can see the guilt that Amir has had to live with and makes you feel bad for him in a way. Its hard to understand what it would be like if you were put in a situation like that. Libby
Well...I think hating the main character definitely will change your perspective of the book but i don't think it necessarily means you hate the entire book. There could be plenty of other aspects about the book that you love.
I agree with nicole about this question. Just because you hate a character doesn't mean that you should hate the whole book or do hate the hole book. If you hate a chracter in the book that will just make it harder or more interesting to like something else in the book like a layout or something. There are deffinetly other things that you could like about a book not just the main character. What about the other characters?
I agree with Nicole about this question, just because you hate the main chraracter doesn't mean that you should hate the whole book. If you hate the main character that can give you a chance to like something else in the book. Like the layout, the ending anything. I personally don't hate any characters in this book. But not likeing a character shouldn't give you an excuse to hate the whole book.
