I really hate Amir.He treats Hassan horribly and is jealous of him even though he has the better life by far.He whines about his life, when Hassan is out their getting beat up to defend him!

I agree. I hate him too. How can you grow up with someone, and be best friends with them, and not consider them your friend? It's so cruel.

I thought the beginning of the book was hard to get in to. There was a lot of detail about Amir's life as a child that I realize now was pretty important, but at the time seemed useless. Now that we've seen the whole encounter between Assef, Hassan, and Amir, and now that we've seen that Amir doesn't do anything to help his friend, I think the book has gotten more interesting. The information that just seemed boring before helps us to understand some of the reasons why Amir was too scared to help his friend.

I really like this book, I think it has a lot of meaning and I can't believe this is fiction. The author makes this novel feel like he really is the character. I believe Hassan will teach everyone something even though he is the one who is illiterate. I don't like Amir's character, but it makes the novel what it is.

I despise this book. It is so sad and unfortunate. Why does it have to be so sad?

I didn't really like the story at the beginning. I thought it was really stupid and didn't care about the background. Now that the story is starting to develop it's getting a lot more interesting. I don't like Amir either, he's selfish and needs to learn that the world doesn't revolve around what he wants.

FYI -- This novel is fiction, but is semi-autobiographical based on Hoessini's own experiences. I'll find out which parts are true-to-life experiences and share those later.

I agree... Also I've come to admire the Afghanistan culture in many ways, They are so much more respectable than I had ever thought.

I agree with Tyler and Nicole. It makes no sense what so ever, growing up with someone and saying that they are your friend but then you go and treat them the way that Amir treats Hassan. It's super bogus! And the bad thing about it is no matter what Amir Does Hassan will still do anything for him even though he sees the way Amir treats him. If I was Hassan, I most definately wouldn't stand by and continue to let Amir walk all over me, I'd lay a Grade A pimpin'. Fo' Sho.

I didn't really like the book in the beggining....But I like it now....a lot more is happening to Amir and Baba and I'm really hoping that Hassan will eventually get Amir back for how he treated him. I don't like Amir....He should have stuck up for Hassan....Hassan did everything for him and Amir does nothing for Hassan....he thinks of Hassan as a servant instead of a friend and it's wrong.

I don't like this book at all i'm really not into these kinds of books. This is exactly why i don't usually read books from school because this is a horrible book. I also think amir is a pansy.

I like this book so far. I think it's really interesting learning about different cultures and lifestyles. I really didn't know very much about Afghanistan at all before so i like reading about it.

At first I didn't like this book because it was slow an d it still is kinda to me but, as you said, Mrs. Sullivan it does get better. I admit it now. I still don't like the book because its not usually what I read.

I kind of disagree with some of the stuff people have said about hating Amir. I don't think he's so much a wimp as a really conflicted character. I think everybody has done bad things before, or looked the other way about bad things, in order to get somebody to like them. Amir's case isn't that different. It's a much more serious thing to not try to prevent, but there's a lot of things going on in his head that are hard for most of us to understand.

But I still think he should have tried to stop Assef from raping Hassan, and I don't think he really deserves to call Hassan a friend after the way he treated him.

I agree with Tegan that the beginning of the book wasn't that interesting. Now the book is more interesting with what is happening, not just hearing all this background information and what had happened already, like in the beginning of the story.

Amir and Hassan could not be any more different from each other. Although they were raised together, there seems to be no connection between the two in Amir's mind. Hassan, on the other hand, wants to be friends and cannot seem to make ends meet with Amir. Amir just sees Hassan as his servent and that he has to hang out with him. I hope the book keeps its pace that it had during chapters 7-10.

I agree that this book seems realistic even though it's non-fiction. I didn't like the beginning of this book but towards the middle it gets intresting. I like how Amir is such a coward. I just want to tell him to be a MAN! He doesn't even have the courage to save Hassan, who's like his brother.

I couldnt stand to read this book in the first place. I really thought it was going to be boring. Now its actually interesting and makes me want to keep reading to see what will happen next.

As of right now, I personally don't really like the book. It's really hard to get into. There's just too much information that really don't seem like it matters. I'm at about the middle and I still really don't like it. It's kind of, sad, but, I guess I don't know.

I don't really understand how the kite string cuts your hands. I get that it's made of glass and is moving and high speeds but why would children want to cut themselves for fun durring the winter? It kind of sounds emo to me, in that sense. Like the kids have nothing better to do with their time? Otherwise, if he is going to be talking about the injuries, he needs to get more graphic about them.

From what I can tell, it seems as if the kite strings cut their hands because they are like sharp wires. Kite running sounds pretty fascinating and definitely not something we see much in the American culture.

i don't like the way amir treats hassan. he's too selfish. even though he and hassan are the same age, because of amir's life of privaledge he seems too babyed. there's no maturity there. he whines and cries and often seems incredibly childish. he doesn't seem to be a very good person.
