How do the ever-changing politics of Afghanistan affect the characters in the novel?

Well if there wasn't the Taliban taking over it would have been easy for Amir to get Hassans son and maybe that trust wouldn't have been broken. Also, maybe Baba wouldn't have lied about Hassan being his son and Hassan and Amir would have know they were brothers. This knowledge could have changed the characters, well Amir would have maybe stood up for Hassan or maybe Hassan wouldn't have been even picked on? Baba and Amir's relationship could have been better and maybe Baba would have been a better person for having the truth out (if it was exceptable in society.)
The politics basically set up everything in the novel. If it werent for the politics, Hassan wouldn't have been disowned (name wise) from Baba, and then the Taliban wouldn't have come in making Baba and Amir leave and then when Amir came back finding Hassan and his wife dead and his son orphaned and his nephew. He would have been able to easily been able to get the death certificates of Hassan and his wife to adopt Sohrab and the conflict would just be gone from the book.... There would be no reason to write about going back to Afghanistan and the struggle to adopt him.
Well, obviously politics affected the characters because many Afghans fled the country. If politics hadn't been a part of this, I don't see what would have caused Baba and Amir to move to the United States.
I agree with Kara....the politics do set up the novel....Hassan would still be alive if politics weren't a problem....Amir and Baba wouldn't have had to leave if politics weren't a problem.
I liked how Amir get the courage to save sorab. I didn't like all the bad things that the Taliban did but it was very realistic. It made me realize how bad they were. I didn't know that they did all this stuff. I wish that Hassan didn't get killed though. If Hassan didn't die then Amir could have made it up to him.
I agree politics did set up alot of the story. If it wasn't for politics Baba wouldn't be ashamed that hassan was his child. Amir would have known he was his half brother. And hassan wouldnt have been killed. Libby
The politics change a lot about the story. Part of it causes Baba and Amir to move to the US, and it also causes more of a problem for Amir when he goes back. The Taliban took over so everyone had to be careful about where they were, what they said, and so on. If the Taliban were not a problem it would have been a lot easier for Amir to find Sohrab and leave. -Meghan
That's what the story is, politics. Everything had to do with some sort of politics that influenced someone to do something or something to happen. Baba would have been okay with telling people he had another son. Hassan and Amir could have been friends. They wouldn't have moved to the US. Hassan wouldn't have died. Everything was effected by it.
At first everybody was living peaceful lifes. They all had homes, and everything was going freat, Now the Taliban had taken over and everyone thought it would be a good thing, but it wasent. Murder came into play and every body in the book was effected by it. Everyone was living in fear they couldnt leave their homes with out looking out the windows first to see who was out their.
