As time goes by, Rahim Kahn visits Hassan and they discuss the past. What do you think about Hassan's response to learning about Amir's life?

I think that Hassan's response was kind of played down. I mean sure people in Afghanistan tend to down play a lot of things but Amir was his best friend, for the most part. It could have been genuine but i think it was more shock than anything. I thought it was rather odd though, how when Hassan found out that Rahim was living in Amir's old house, he moved back into the hut in the back and refused to live in the house, like things would get back to normal if he tried and was a better person. Like, it was his fault things turned out the way they did when they weren't. It's kind of sad.
Hassan is really excited about it. I think that the reason Hassan was so excited was because Amir was the only friend Hassan had throughout his entire childhood. He wanted to know about his life, what he accomplished, how he was doing because he loved him. I thought it was the sign of a really true and loving friend.
Knowing Hassan, he probably was glad to hear it and may have been slightly resentful. I'm sure the shear amount of time since Amir and Hassan had last met had driven a lot of distance between the two.
I expected that he would be upset with his father, as he was. He felt betrayed which was as well. I think that the puzzle pieces finally started fitting together.
I was kind of surprised to read about Hassan's reaction. If I was Hassan, I would have been pissed off to hear about Amir and how he's doing well in America after what Amir did to him. I was definitely surprised that Hassan agreed to come back to live at Amir's house. There must have been some unpleasant memories from there, since he knew that Amir had tried to get him fired.
I also agree with what ariel said. I think that Hassan's reaction shows that he really is a true friend to Amir. And since we know what Amir did to Hassan, I think it shows that Hassan deserved better.
I think that Hassan was happy when he heard of Amir's life. Even though Amir did a lot of bad things to Hassan, Hassan still thinks of Amir as a friend.
I think that Hassan was interested in hearing what Amir was like as an adult. He just wanted to see how his best friend was. I think he thought that he was really still his best friend after all of those years.
I think, in a way, that Hassan was very happy to hear that his best friend as a child had a nice life. But I also think that Hassan was not thrilled when he found out it was Amir's old house. It's like he didn't feel right, he wasn't allowed to live in the house when Amir and him were children, why should it be any different now, even though Amir no longer lives there.

I agree with what Kara said....everything was kind of down played....you would think that there would have been more emotion.

I think that Hassan want to hear about Amir's life because it gave Hassan confort. This confort Hassan because Amir was the only real friend.
