An anti-hero is a protagonist who lacks the usual heroic qualities of an admirable person or leader, particularly skill, grace, honesty, courage, and truth.
In what ways is Amir portrayed as an anti-hero?

Amir is portrayed as an Anit-hero because he really doesn't do anything good. He really only cares about himself. When Hassan is being raped he doesn't do anything to help him. And then after Hassan gets away from Assef Amir admits to checking the blue kite for rips. He didn't care that Hassan was raped. After a little while he starts feeling guilty for not saying or doing anything and he just wants Hassan to go away, so he frames him and Hassan is forced to tell his father what happens and Ali and Hassan end up having to leave because of Amir.
Amir is an anti-hero because he doen't stand up for himself and lets people walk all over him and push him around. He also is kind of a dork because he reads books and writes stories all the time.
Amir is portrayed as an anti-hero because he never sticks of up for anyone and is scary. Like when his father sticks up to the russian soldier when he tries to get some time alone with the that one man's wife (name? K-something rather) and Amir just sits back and watches worrying about himself and what he is going to do if he's father dies and how he is going to bury and where he will live. Also when he just sits back and peeks around the corner when Hassan is being held down and defiled by Assef and his goons, instead of helping someone who is supposed be his best friend.
Amir is an anti hero because he lacks the qualities of a hero. He wouldn't stand up for his best friend when he was in trouble. He lets people push him around. Amir wants to be more like his father. He doesnt have courage to stand up for what he believes is right like his dad does.
Yes, he is an anti-hero. He doesn't have any courage, he doesn't stick up for his friend in need. He is selfish because he only wants his dad to hang out with him. He is a wimp just like tony statz.
i think that amir is an anti-hero because he doesn't treat amir like his friend when other people are around. Amir only plays with hassan when there is no one else to chill with
Amir asks Baba if they could get new servants because he doesn't want to be around hassan anymore after hassan got raped
I think that Amir portrays an anti-hero in the Kite Runner mostly because of the way he acts when Assef is harassing Hassan. Amir is willing to let Hassan be beat up as long as Hassan gets the kite for him. A hero in most books would stand up to Assef and try to help his friend, but Amir is too scared to do anything because he knows that Assef could hurt him. He doesn't seem to know how to stand up for himself without Hassan around.
It bothers me that Amir wouldnt stand up for his best friend when he was in trouble. I dont see how someone could just let that happen. Whats even worse is when he frames hassan. In the end when hassan is sent away he doesnt even go and say good bye.
Well i agree, because he doesnt have what his father has, and that would be the cahona's to stand up to any one at all. He couldnt even stand up for his bbf, in my eyes if he doesnt change at all, hes going down as a loser in history.
Amir is potrayed as the anit-hero because he is a coward and he doesn't stand up to people when they are doing someting wrong. For example when he sees Hassan being sexually harass, Amir doesn't do anything to help Hassan even though he know the other boys are doing someting wrong. Amir runs away instead of helping Hassan.
this is a good book i kinda like it so far but i havent read much yet goodbye
Amir is an anti-hero because he doesn't help anyone else around him, especially Hassan. Hassan has always been there to help Amir, but when Hassan needed his help the most, he ran away, and acted like he never even knew it had happened.
Do you think Amir will ever apoligize or tell someone of his sin? Do you think he will ever admit to someone what he did and how horrible of a person he is?
Amir is a wimp. He runs away from his problems. He is considered a hero after flying the winning kite but is really a failure for leaving his friend to be raped.
I agree. I feel as if Amir has no conscience what so ever. He keeps trying to insult Hassan so Hassan will insult him back to make Amir feel better. All Amir had to do the entire time was just say he was sorry and the whole situation would be resolved.
Amir is portrayed as an anit-hero because he had the chance to stick up for his friend but didnt. Amir really wants his dad to like him more than Hassan. he knew that he should of helped but just couldnt do it. in the end he forced Hassan away.
I was so frustrated when Amir talks of running after Hassan and Ali when they are driving in their car when it is raining, but he doesn't! He doesn't stand up and take the blame. He breaks up the relationship between his father and Ali and lets his dad think that Hassan stole money also! Grr....
Amir is most defenitly an anti hero. After Hassan gets raped, they go up on the hill and Amir throws Pomegranets at him. How could any decent person do that to someone who just went through what Hassan had, just because you felt guilty about not stopping it. All of Amir's actions make Hassan seem much more heroic. He's loyal and he convinces Ali not to tell Baba what Amir let happen to him, when they decide to leave.
Amir is selfish. All he wants is the kite and doesn't care about his friends wellbeing. He doesn't even have the courage to stand up for his friend after his friend stood up for him.
Amir doesn't do anything for anyone the entire book, it's always for him. If it weren't for the book letting us peer into his thoughts, I'd probably hate his guts.
But that's the thing, he doesn't consider Hassan to be his friend. So he doesn't care. All he cares about are things like his father liking him more, and people liking his writing, and him not being made fun of.
Amir makes fun of Hassan for not knowing big words and doesn't teach him how to read either. He feels higher up in class because he can read and Hassan can't. He get's jealous of Hassan and he should be, because is a better person.
to answer ppolzer's question, I think that Amir will try to make up for his mistakes. In the first chapter, Amir says that Rahim Khan told him that there was "a way to be good again." This comment makes me think that probably at least Rahim Khan knows, and that he knows of a way to kind of take back Amir's cowardly actions.
Sometimes I think that Amir is just a product of his father's disappointments. Amir doesn't really think he has any good qualities...and deep down he knows that Hassan is more of his father's idea of a good son.
Amir is like an anti-hero. The reasons are obvious. He runs when ever danger comes his way; he never stuck up for himself. He relied on everyone else to help him along the way. He never tells the truth about what happened with Hassan because he doesn't want his dad to think he's a coward.
